A. SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Under the Supervision of the President and CEO, the Development Director is responsible for expanding the agency's funding base through a variety of activities.
B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (100%):
- CONDUCT RESEARCH AND DEVELOP AN ORGANIZED SYSTEM TO ASSEMBLE INFORMATION NECESSARY FOR SUCCESSFUL GRANT SEEKING ACTIVITIES (25%):
- Research appropriate public policy and public funding trends.
- Research private, corporate, and foundation resources; serve as liaison for the agency.
- Research the literature appropriate to specific service areas.
- Collect and organize community needs assessment and client based data from past and present agency projects and services.
- Conduct additional needs assessments in coordination with agency staff.
- Develop a resource library and access the Atlas GIS, on-line services, and other direct sources.
- DIRECT AND IMPLEMENT GRANT WRITING ACTIVITIES INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING (25%):
- Organize proposal development teams consisting of appropriate program, fiscal, and administrative staff; plan the timelines make assignments, and coordinate the team for proposal submission.
- Serve as primary proposal writer when appropriate.
- Develop agency wide proposals as necessary, e.g., the United Way proposal, corporations and foundations.
- Assist in start-up of new projects as necessary.
- Manage and maintain the Proposal File in both the hard copy and automated forms.
- DIRECT AND SUPPORT FUND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES OF THE AGENCY TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (15%):
- Plan and implement the annual direct mail appeal, agency’s annual fundraiser ShowTime.
- Serve as liaison and coordinate agency participation in the United Way and Asian Fund drives to maximize the agency's share.
- Develop agency participation in other federated giving programs as possible.
- Assist in market research and concept development for fund development enterprises, e.g., the Residential Self Sufficiency Program.
- PARTICIPATE ON THE MANAGEMENT TEAM AND PROVIDE INPUT TO AGENCY WIDE ISSUES AND CONCERNS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON THE FOLLOWING (15%):
- Develop recommendations to the Management Team for long range positioning of the agency in accordance to the agency's mission and the direction of public policy.
- Provide weekly updates on public policy, legislation, and grantsmanship activities.
- Assist in the development of the Board of Directors with an emphasis on fund development and grant seeking. Staff the Fundraising Committee.
- COORDINATE THE PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE RICE PAPER (15%):
- Chair the editorial board to define and develop the agency’s newsletter Rice Paper.
- Oversee the production and layout of the Rice Paper.
- Update & maintain the Rice Paper mailing list.
- Coordinating the Rice Paper mail out in the bulk mail format.
- COORDINATE AGENCY PUBLICITY AND PROMOTION (5%):
- Serve as public information officer.
- Develop and maintain press packets.
- Oversee development and production of agency brochures.
- Oversee web site development; coordinate with Managers in other staff in updating information.
C. QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES):
- REQUIREMENTS:
- Six-year college education related to field or equivalent work experience related to field.
- Permanent resident or U.S. Citizen; proof of work eligibility upon hiring.
- Valid California Drivers License and current automobile liability insurance.
- Must have at least three (3) years of recovery or drug free lifestyle as of the date of application.
- Must be able to work with people of diverse cultural, educational, social, and economic backgrounds
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in computer operations.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, and communications skills with people of diverse culture, education, social, and economic backgrounds.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual and bicultural capabilities with Asian/Pacific languages and cultural groups.
- Knowledge of PC programs such as, Front Page and Power Point.
