AADAP’s 2010 Annual Board Meeting

AADAP’s Annual Board Meeting was held at the banquet hall of Empress Pavilion in Chinatown, located on the edge of downtown Los Angeles on July 29, 2010. After a adventurous yet sumptuous Chinese Dim Sum dining, Saundra Bryant, AADAP Board Member welcomed everyone, announced this year’s new Slate of Board Officers and introduced AADAP’s new Board Chairman, Ken Kasamatsu. The newly elected Board Officers are:

Karl Nobuyuki – Vice Chairman
Jean Shigematsu – Treasurer
Sue Oda Omori – Secretary

Chairman Kasamatsu introduced Mike Watanabe, President & CEO along with the other Board of Directors, several special guests, and honorees. Special guests included Michael Banner, President & CEO, Los Angeles LDC; Wendy Anderson, Showtime/ Event Consultant; David Thomson, Vice President, SFE Investment; Catherine Endo Chuck, Attorney at Law of McBirney & Chuck; Captain Dennis Kato, LAPD Captain, 77th Division; Guillermo Cespedes, Director of Gang Reduction and Youth Development Program; Janine Rambo, Director of First Advocates and Jim Matsushita, a friend and supporter of AADAP.

Mike Watanabe set a positive tone for the coming year and presented the Annual Report, plus recognized the units for their dedicated work to the agency and clients. This year, Fred Payo, AADAP’s Community Organizer and Health Educator was presented with an award for his ten years of committed service to AADAP and his youth.

Mike Martin, Corporate Honoree and President & CEO, Pacific General Insurance, Nina Flores, Program Honoree and Director of Quiltmakers from the Heart and Art Ishii, Community Honoree and Nisei Week Executive Board Member as well as being one of the original co-founders of the Yellow Brotherhood were AADAP’s Honorees. Each of the Honorees made a special contribution to the agency and we presented with an award.

Ken Kasamatsu closed the evening’s program by thanking the AADAP staff and guests for their steadfast dedication and Empress Pavilion for the delicious food and fantastic service.
