Annual Meeting
The Board of Directors convened their Annual Meeting on July 28, 2005. As an evolving tradition, it was held over dinner with all staff and a few special guests. This year’s meeting was held at the Empress Pavilion in Chinatown complete with a ten course banquet. The evening was festive and marked with a few significant events. In a brief business meeting before the festivities, the Board elected its new officers. They are:
Karl Nobuyuki, Chairman
Rev. Ken Fong, Vice Chairman
Ken Kasamatsu, Treasurer
Sue Oda-Omori, Secretary
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Annual Report by Mike Watanabe, President and CEO. He reviewed the accomplishments of the year Unit-by-Unit and the agency as a whole. (A copy of the report is available elsewhere on this website.) Much was accomplished, and he turned to thank three special guests who played important roles in two of those. First was John Hill, Chief of Staff to Supervisor Yvonne Burke. John was thanked for his firm support of AADAP programs, particularly the gang and violence prevention work on South Los Angeles. The second person was Alison Baumann, who established, funded, and developed a scholarship fund for Olympic Academy graduates single handedly. Finally, the third individual who went above and beyond the call this year was Steve Rivera, a volunteer with Olympic Academy.
