People Need People
The Asian American Drug Abuse Program

On June 12, 2006, AADAP’s staff and residents celebrated the 108th anniversary of the independence of the Philippines from Spanish control. Not only did everyone learn about the history of this momentous event, but the Philippine Independence Day Committee planned a whole program for everyone to enjoy. Filipino/a staff members performed a traditional dance called the Tinikling Dance which utilizes long bamboo sticks as the dancers maneuver skillfully through the moving sticks. Also included in the program were a special song sung by an AADAP staff member and the Pabitin Game which is a popular children’s game where everyone jumps and tries to grab a suspended prize or treat. The celebration aptly ended with a Filipino feast which included a whole roasted pig! Salamatsa (thank you) Philippine Independence Day Committee! It truly was an educational and celebratory time.
