Corrinne May

With accomplished musicianship and exquisite soul, Corrinne May evokes words and music that are both generous and genuine, stories she reveals in a voice of striking purity and undeniable magic.

Her self-titled debut presented a calling card to audiences in the U.S., Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. The suite of songs that comprises Safe in a Crazy World extends Corrinne's worldwide appeal.

Corrinne's journey began in Singapore, the former British colony at the cosmopolitan crossroads of east and west. She went on to study songwriting and film composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Relocating to Los Angeles, she came to the attention of legendary Grammy-winning songwriters, Carole King and Carole Bayer Sager, with whom she collaborated.

MTV Asia featured her video for "Fly Away" and television shows on Lifetime and ABC selected her songs to underscore their dramas as did the Columbia/TriStar feature, So Close. Named Best Contemporary Album by the musical alliance, Just Plain Folks, the album spent over a year on the top sellers list at CD Baby.

Safe in a Crazy World, where Corrinne's artistry blooms in full flower. Her trademark ballads are adorned by a cinematic string section and epic orchestrations and her lighter side shines on "Little Superhero Girl," where she wants to "turn the bullies that terrorize/Into pink poodles that bark but don't bite," and the upbeat pop of "If I Kissed You," when she asks a potential lover, "Would you run naked up the street with a tattoo of my name on your behind?" All of the songs are penned solo, with the exception of the poignant "Everything in Its Time," a collaboration with Carole Bayer Sager.

On Ensemble

With the powerful rhythms of ensemble taiko music at its foundation, On Ensemble (pronounced "ohn") combines the musical and dance talents of its four members into unique performances. As a CDBaby review put it "On Ensemble beautifully combines folk, jazz and rock into a tightly-woven fabric making full use of acoustic potential before adding tasteful electronic colors."

*In their 50 years of combined taiko experience, On Ensemble's four young musicians have studied and performed with renowned masters of traditional and contemporary music and dance in the United States and Japan ranging from centuries-old Kabuki music to jazz, rock and electronica, After a their debut concert in northern Japan and first western-US tour in the spring of 2002, the group received the Duane Ebata Memorial Fund Award at Los Angeles' Japan America Theater, "in support and recognition of emerging artists of promise who are furthering the development of Asian Pacific American performing arts."

In 2005 the ensemble released their first studio album "Dust and Sand" receiving critical acclaim. The independently produced album spent several months on the New Age Reporter [NAR] charts reaching number three in October of 2005 and continues national airplay. Modern Drummer magazine called On Ensemble "an exciting taiko ensemble looking at new ways to apply traditional Japanese drums."

On Ensemble utilizes Japanese drums hand-made by Miyamoto Unosuke Shouten, instrument maker to the Emperor of Japan. Current works feature these drums in conjunction with turntable, western drum kit, bamboo flute, koto (Japanese zither), and Tuvan overtone singing.
