THE OLYMPIC ACADEMY FOR YOUTH is a 16-bed facility that is designed to be an intense and comprehensive program for youth ages 14-17. Within the 24-hour, 7-day/week structure, youth are provided the lessons in which critical thinking skills are developed. Day to day activities provide the opportunities for youth to practice proactive analysis of complex situations. Youth are given the tools needed to explore their lives on a level that enables them to sharpen their communications skills, manage their emotions, and utilize conflict resolution tools.

October 2007

Dear Parents,

With the holidays just around the corner, it is very important that you and your entire family understand what your child may be feeling and experiencing in the upcoming months. I encourage you to continue talking with your child and to provide constant encouragement and support. Sending cards and letters are an excellent way to let your child know that you are thinking of them and support them during their treatment episode. Keeping in touch with your child's counselor is crucial during this time of year.

The AADAP fundraiser was a huge success, and I thank all of you who supported the event. Special thanks to those who have generously donated tickets. We were able to take all the youth to the show this year due to your kindness. I look forward to seeing you all at next year’s Showtime, which promises to be an even more festive time than this year.

In closing, I encourage you all to keep in contact with your child’s counselor and also to stay connected with the parent support network that has been established. By working together today, we will make a lasting impact on your child tomorrow.

Respectfully,

Byron Shinyama
